Gangotri Dham


Gangotri, the origin of the River Ganges and seat of the goddess Ganga, is one of the four sites in the Chota Char Dham pilgrimage circuit. The original Gangotri Temple was built by the Nepalese general Amar Singh Thapa.

Holy Fairs: The Kumbh Mela is one of the holiest of Hindu pilgrimages that is held four times every twelve years; the location is rotated among the four cities of PrayagrajHaridwarNashik, and Ujjain. Shravani Mela of Deoghar and Pitrapaksha Mela of Gaya are also notable holy fairs.
