Cuttack is also identified as Orissa Cuttack or Cuttack Orissa, implying its presence in the State of Orissa in India. Today the state of Orissa is known as Odisha. Cuttack was once the state’s capital but is no longer so. The river Mahanadi flows through this city. The city is famous for its ancient architecture and temples, apart from scenic surroundings. People here had built a stone revetment at the banks of the river which often gets flooded.

This engineering marvel was built somewhere between 1001 and 1100 AD.
