Ayodhya is another sacred town for Hindus. This town is situation on the banks of River Saryu, more precisely the right bank of that river. Ayodhya may also be spelt as Ayodhaya or referred to as Oudh, or Awadh. The city came into news because of the Babri Mosque demolishment here. This city is important to Hindus because one of the main deities of the religion, Shri Ram Chandra ji, was born here, and he ruled this kingdom.

Temples were built in his honor in Ayodhya. However, during the period of Muslim invasion, many of the temples in the country were demolished, and Ayodhya ram mandir was one that was not only demolished, but replaced with a mosque by Emperor Babar.

The mosque was named as Babri Masjid. Over the years, trustees of original ayodhya ram mandir knocked the door of the courts, but justice was delayed. This led to some people getting annoyed. Their object was build ram temple at the site so as to restore the glory of the religion. In December 1992 Babri Masjid was demolished by a few Hindus.

This led to communal riots across the country.  Religious feelings have been cited as the cause for Godhra Train burning incident in 2002, and subsequent genocide which has become a major controversy for India.
