Varanasi is also known as Benaras or Banaras and Kashi. It is situated on the banks of the River Ganges in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It is regarded as a holy city by Hindus, Buddhists and Jains. It is the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world and oldest in India. Varanasi India has been the religious and cultural region of North India. The most spectacular feature about Varanasi is that Gautama Buddha gave his first sermon at Sarnath, Varanasi.

It is along the left crescent shaped bank of the river of Ganga. It is a very fertile land as it is located in the indo - gangetic plains.
